Cinema camera and lens
Choose a cinema camera, its recording mode and format, and your lens set, anamorphic included. The viewfinder shows that field of view, and photos and video keep it.
Frame
Choose a cinema camera, its recording mode and format, and your lens set, anamorphic included. The viewfinder shows that field of view, and photos and video keep it.
If the lens is wider than the iPhone can see, you get black borders instead of a wider angle that was never captured.
Show several framelines at once, each with its own matte, for example 2.39:1 inside an open-gate frame. They are not burned into the original, so you can change them later in the gallery.1
The front camera keeps your camera and focal length, in photo and video. Useful when the actor holds the phone, or for a pre-shoot of a selfie-style scene.
Sun
The sun's position and the shooting direction are saved with every shot. Open any shot later and show the sun, even if you never looked at it on location.
In the gallery and on the map, see the sun and the camera direction together, also for another date.
In video the sun follows the camera move frame by frame, and the map shows how far the camera turned.
Tap SUN for the day's path over the live image, with hour marks, sunrise and sunset. Hold SUN to pick another date and time. If the compass is off, line the drawing up with the real sun.
Video
Zoom during a take and the focal length is recorded as it changes. Playback shows it frame by frame and the export can burn it in, so every take tells you its zoom range.
Set the top speed, up to a crash zoom, and the response curve.
Standard, Cine and Cine Extended, from a handheld feel to a smooth move. The extra crop is compensated, so the frame matches the focal length you chose.
Slow motion at whole multiples of the project frame rate, with focal lengths matched. Rates and stabilisation depend on the iPhone and the lens.
Photo
One RAW frame developed in the app, without Apple's multi-frame processing, noise reduction or sharpening: the sensor's own noise and contrast. Apple ProRAW is there too.
Depth photos with bokeh presets such as Modern cine, Vintage swirl, Soap bubble and Anamorphic 2×. Change focus, aperture and the look after the shot.2
On set
Measure distances in AR, then shoot a photo or video with the measurements in the frame.
Share the viewfinder over Wi-Fi or the iPhone's own hotspot. The crew watches in a browser on any device. Or stream over SRT to your own server.
Also: projects and locations, monitoring LUTs, film grain and halation, ProRes and Apple Log on supported iPhones, upload to your cloud storage.
Scans
Scan an interior with LiDAR. Film Gate builds the room with walls, windows, doors, furniture and dimensions, and a 3D splat, on the phone.
Turn on the sun and see how light and shadows fall through windows and doors at any time and date.
Walk through the scan with your camera, lenses and framelines, and shoot stills and video inside it.
Place people in the scene, set their height and pose them.
Photos and video taken at the location are placed in the scan, so you can see where each frame was shot. For video, the camera path is drawn.
Export the scene with cameras and the splat for Unreal or Blender.
Scanning needs an iPhone with LiDAR (Pro models).
